Porcelain Wall-hanging whale and fish sculpture

Porcelain ceramic, finished with underglazes, glaze, leather cord, jewellery chain, cotton textile.

This piece was created for Cardiff Pottery Workshops Foundation’s 1lb Exhibition, where the members were invited to create a piece of work from 1lb of clay. It tickled my fancy to make something that is large and heavy in real life from a small amount of traditionally delicate porcelain.

Finlay was made in the studio having fun with my fellow members. The fish were made by my clever friend @tacymakingstuff from my clay scraps after making the big fellow! He is a Southern Right Whale with a sunny disposition, he doesn’t discriminate who can be his friend based on their size. It’s all about personality (and who spills the tea!).

He is ready to hang up to grace your walls wherever you choose.
