Belonging - whale sculpture lamp

Here is a whale lamp I made out of joy and curiosity, a mother and child bond I wanted to portray. Whales are miraculous creatures, and the tenderness of parenthood makes them even more wondrous. While making this sculpture, I delved into how whales are born and feed their young as mammals (how do they feed their calves milk while being underwater?), there are rare, beautiful videos now of exactly how this happens!

Made of my favourite porcelain and glazes, this pair of whales light up with a flick of a mains powered switch and will be half of my offering for @cardiffpotteryworkshops ‘Belonging Together’ members exhibition opening 17th October 2026, and will be available to take home by collection anticipated early November when the exhibition closes.
